Ridgewood is located in Bergen County, New Jersey, one of the state's northern counties. Conveniently located less than an hour from New York City, Ridgewood is home to many New York-based professionals and executives.
It is also ideally located for commuting a short drive to the numerous corporate headquarters throughout the county. With its numerous shops and boutiques, downtown Ridgewood is a favorite destination for the town's residents as well as shoppers from neighboring towns and beyond.
Ridgewood traces its roots to 1687 when the East Jersey Proprietors granted several hundred acres to Isaac Kingsland. Johannes Van Emburgh bought some of this land in 1698 and his descendants built one of the first houses in the area. Van Emburgh is a name you'll come across more than once on street signs and the like.
Aaron Burr was thought to have been married in one of the local churches.
According to the 1920 census, the town's population stood at 7,580. Today Ridgewood is home to over 25000 residents; nestled in approximately 6 square miles. It is at once a dynamic community with a vibrant downtown while retaining its historic small-town atmosphere.
